Associate Research Fellow Kuang Yudi from South China University of Technology shared the market landscape and regulatory frontiers of collagen injectable fillers for aesthetic use. China’s filler market reached RMB 65.4 billion in 2023. While product categories are diversified, the sector is troubled by overhyped concepts and insufficient quality control. Off-label injection is a critical hazard that may lead to vascular embolism and severe complications. He introduced regulatory tools, public review reports and adverse-event data analysis, calling for joint efforts between research and regulators to drive standardized industry growth.
Dr. Xu Liming from the National Technical Committee on Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices Standardization covered medical applications, standardization progress and characterization techniques of native & recombinant collagen. She analyzed industrial challenges, existing domestic and international standards, and key test methods including CD, DSC, SEC-MALS and self-assembly assay, laying a technical foundation for quality evaluation of collagen biomaterials.
